Macrolides used in the medical practice are different in that they can impede protein synthesis inside the microbial cells. As has been repeatedly stated, when the microorganisms develop resistance to levomycetin, tetracycline and penicillins, they become sensitive to macrolides. This medicine is prescribed to prevent micobacterial infections in patients with HIV. Besides, Biaxin is widely used in gastroenterology for the combination therapy of patients with stomach and duodenal ulcer, caused by Helicobacter pylori.
Contraindications and adverse effects of Biaxin
Biaxin can have some adverse effects – sickness, diarrhea, vertigo and insomnia, allergic reactions (skin rush and urticaria), and your tastes can change.You should take into account some contraindications of Biaxin. According to the instruction for us, this medicine is contraindicated to the patients with hepatitis, severe liver failure, porphyria and hypersensitivity to macrolide antibiotics. It is also not recommended to take the drug in the first trimester of pregnancy, during lactation and to the children under 12 years old.
Compatibility with the other drugs
The combined use of Biaxin, Carbamazepine and Theophylline can cause the concentration of the latter in blood plasma.
